  1. The Silliness Continues

It has been so dang hot, and humid. But laundry and chores must still get done, even though all we want to do is sit on our butts with fans blowing at our faces and chests.

Normally, our drying rack gets set up in our bedroom. With the humidity we’ve been having as of late, adding more moisture to the air where we are sleeping doesn’t seem like a good idea. So I set up the rack in the back room/spare room.

Much like when the rack was set up in the bedroom, a certain little orange fluffer decided to climb it. This time, he managed to get higher.

I have no idea how he got up there.

But she does, and she’s not telling.

  2. Playing Hard, Means He Sleeps Hard

Around, and around and around the house he will go. Stopping only when he runs into a wall, foot or hand. Then he shakes his head and runs off again because he lost sight of Audrey. He just won’t stop! And anything and everything that moves is fair game. Sometimes movement doesn’t even matter! His cute, fluffy body and adorably hazel eyes gets him out of trouble when Paul catches him on a table.

There are little moments in the day when he is calm enough for Audrey to enjoy his company. She is slowly warming up to him. When they are both sleeping we take him from our laps/face/neck/armpits and put him on her. Yes, we are forcing them to cuddle. Just look at them! They are so cute!

She wakes up just after he finishes squirming into place, nestling his head anywhere on her for warmth and security. She looks up at us a little, as if to say “Really? This again?”

And then goes back to sleep, enjoying his purring and warmth, too.

While he is none the wiser that he has moved from one cuddle buddy to another.

Eventually she shuffles her way away from the squirmer, and takes her side of the chair. And he wakes up when she gets up. Then it’s all back to him chasing and jumping on her.

These little moments of sleeping are peace, until we move and then it’s back to chaos that only a boy kitten can bring.

We were already calling her Grey Lightning. Now he is Orange Thunder, because he is never far behind!

  3. The Live-In Babysitter

Poor Audrey. The girl is exhausted when I get home at the end of the day. She hardly greets me. Just walks up to the front door and waits for me to pick her up. She used to rather exuberantly launch into my arms. Now the little cuddling I get I fear is just her way of getting out of Charlie’s reach.

As soon as she gets comfortable anywhere, Charlie stops what he’s doing on the other side of the apartment and speeds towards her.

Jumping at her tail, back, head or anything that can be nibbled or swatted. This ends with Audrey swatting him back. After a good few smacks on the head, no claws, Charlie gets distracted and runs away.

Leaving Audrey amused at his antics, and waiting for it all to happen again.

But she does enjoy him. Especially when he’s sleeping.

CharlieJust look at that face. Who wouldn’t love him? You would never suspect that he just knocked down the garbage in the bathroom. Or unrolled half a roll or toilet paper. Or just attacked the arch of your foot with his needle sharp teeth. Or slept on your face for half the night.

He looks peaceful. And I hope this is how he is for most of the day with his live-in babysitter!

Babysitting a real baby takes a lot out of you, doesn’t it, Princess?

  4. Our Princess is Two!

The Princess formally known as Shanti was born this week two years ago. She burst into our lives a few months later with kisses, and silent meows and head butts. Now she brightens our day, everyday with even more kisses, squeaky meows, and drooling head butts.

It didn’t take her long to get into the swing of things, and adopt Paul as her mom, and me as her littermate.

Over the past two years she has gotten bigger and bigger. But it’s still the little things about her that make us go “Awww.” Like her perfect little pinky toes.

Her velvety grey nose. Even when it’s throwing boogers at you after she’s been exploring behind the radiators.

She has a healthy fascination for our hobbies, and support us as we try new things,

    or work on the old.

She has forgiven us for any slights to her dignities.

And she has grown into a beautiful, poised young woman.

Happy Birthday, my little girl! May your next year be full of:

    string,

successfully averting many attacks on cat fort,

and cat milk. May you have lots of cat milk.

    We love you!

    Love Mom and Dad.
